Seawall repair

A seawall rarely fails all at once. It cracks, it scours at the toe, it loses fill from behind a joint — and each of those, caught early, is a contained repair instead of a $50,000 replacement. This page covers what's repairable, what isn't, and how to tell the difference.

What we repair

Cracking and spalling. Hairline cracks in concrete walls let brackish water reach the reinforcing steel. The steel rusts, expands, and breaks the concrete from inside. Structural epoxy and polyurethane injection seals the path before the damage compounds.

Cap failure. The cap ties the top of the wall together. When it cracks or lifts, panels start moving independently — cap replacement restores the structure's unity and is one of the most cost-effective repairs in the book.

Toe scour. Tidal flow and boat wake dig out the mud in front of the wall's base. Left alone, the wall loses its footing. Stone toe protection or grout stabilization stops the digging.

Loss of backfill. If you see low spots or sinkholes in the yard behind the wall, fill is escaping through joints below the waterline. Sealing the joints and replacing fill — sometimes with flowable grout — closes the leak.

Leaning and anchor failure. A wall that's started to rotate can often be pulled back and held with new helical tieback anchors, drilled into stable soil behind the wall — no excavation, no demolition.

Repair or replace?

The honest threshold: if the wall is structurally sound but locally damaged, repair. If the structure itself — piles rotted through, panels delaminating, anchors gone — has failed, money spent on repair is rent, not a fix.
